Desc: Incredible Gulpers: Directed by Graeme Duane. With Sean Pertwee. Ever been so hungry, the food didn't touch sides? Hidden deep inside our little shop of horrors, tucked away between the display cases is a dark shelf. Lined up in the shadows is a collection of gruesome gargoyles. As the camera approaches one moves - its jaws expand, and swallows the camera. These are nature's gulpers - an array of creatures that have hideous jaws, able to swallow their food whole, or trap their prey and eat them alive. Others use their awesome jaws to fight for territory, or to protect their young. One by one our list of gulping freaks emerge from the shadows. There may be artistic licence here - but THESE gruesome forms are all real, and their speciality is swallowing. The Monster Gulpers are divided into 4 groups. Combat jaws are creatures who fight with their mouths. The orange-throated pikeblenny has a mouth three times the size of its body - purely for defending territory. Swallowers take the simple approach - get as much down in one sitting as possible. Humpback whales can swallow a shoal of fish big enough to fill a bus - in one gulp. Their mouth becomes their throat, which becomes their stomach - in one movement. Destroyers are the wizards of destruction, clubbing, crunching and obliterating anything before swallowing. Nile crocodiles are living battering rams, breaking legs and ripping up prey before gulping them down - heads, limbs, horns and all. Then there are the trappers, sinister predators that catch their prey whole, and digest it while it's still alive. Seemingly harmless, these carnivorous plants patiently wait for prey to touch their hair-triggers or fall into their traps - and SNAP. Insects and even rodents are consumed as they're still dying. These and many other freaks will fascinate you as we visit each Monster Gulper.
